JAKARTA - The government targets cash transfer realisation to reach at least 70% in areas most affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic before Eid-ul-Fitr this year. Currently, there are 9 million people entitled to the aid according to the Ministry of Social Affairs' data.

"Village cash transfers will be prioritised for areas directly affected by COVID-19 with a target of at least 70%. The village aid is positioned last in our contact data," said Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy in an official statement on the Cabinet Secretariat's website, Tuesday (19/5).

According to Mr Effendy, in addition to cash transfer recipients in the Integrated Welfare Data, there are also recipients compiled in data from each neighbourhood. Thus, he said, the government aims to massively distribute the aid in five days before Eid.

Mr Effendy also affirmed that PT Pos Indonesia (Persero) will be involved in channeling cash transfers before the holiday. The number of aid recipients is estimated to reach 8.3 million from 9 million receiving families. (LK/MS)
