Task Force 115 is asked to take more active role in eradicating illegal fishing

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is strengthening the Task Force 115, a team formed by the government to eradicate illegal fishing. This was conveyed by Minister of KKP Edhy Prabowo in a press release after a limited coordination meeting (rakortas) on Thursday (21/5).

The minister requested that the Task Force 115 be more active in combating fish theft in Indonesian waters. Moreover, he said, President Joko Widodo had requested that the team's role be strengthened. "The president gives direction so that the Task Force 115 is strengthened and becomes an important part in combating illegal fishing in Indonesia which involves international networks," he said.

Along with that, the team was asked to work together with other institutions. The team consisted of a number of elements including the Ministry of KKP, the Navy, Bakamla, the Attorney General's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, the Office of the Presidential Staff, and maritime experts.
