The government reintroduces SVLK for wood export

27 May 2020 08:15

JAKARTA - The government reintroduces timber legality assurance system (SVLK) as the main requirement for exporting Indonesian processed wood products. This was done after a negative response from the European Union that Minister of Trade Regulation No.15 / 2020 concerning Provisions for Exporting Forestry Products did not emphasize the importance of V-legal documents on exports of forestry industry products.

Acting Deputy Minister at Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investments Affairs, Nani Herdiati, said the results of the inter-ministerial coordination meeting resulted in an agreement to cancel Permendag No.15 / 2020 which will take effect on 27 May 2020.

"The V-Legal document is a product of the timber legality assurance system (SVLK). SVLK is the embodiment of good forest governance, and it has succeeded in changing the bad image of forest management in Indonesia. "In addition, the EU, USA, Japan, Korea, Australia and China markets require a guarantee of timber legality," said Nani in a press release on Tuesday (26/5).

The meeting regarding the Permendag was done seven times by involving several parties, including Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, IPB, UGM and other institutions.
