The government will boost export of PPEs

JAKARTA - The government is taking the advantage of lockdown easing to boost exports of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and masks to a number of countries, including South Korea, Japan, and the United States. At present, there is a surplus of 40 million units of PPE and masks per month.

In a press release published on Friday (29/5), Elis Masitoh, Director of the Textile IndustryTextile and Miscellaneous Industries (TPT) at the Ministry of Industry said that Indonesia would become a producer of PPE and cloth masks to meet the demand of the world market. At present, he said, the national TPT industry has a production capacity of up to 54 million units of PPE per month, while domestic demand is only around 10 million units per month.

According to him, the demand for PPE for health workers is 5.5 million units per month and 8 million of reserves have been prepared until the end of this year. 

He said that all scale of industries will participate in exporting their PPE products, from SMEs to large-scale companies. (LK/AR)
