JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry is targeting investors from the United States to fill the integrated industrial area in Indonesia. The impact of the trade war between the US and China may force a number of US investors in China to relocate their business to countries in the Southeast Asian region.

Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Industry, said that the industries that will be targeted include industries for import substitution, export-oriented industries, labour-intensive industries and high technology-based industries. "We remain focused on attracting investment in various industrial sectors," he said in Jakarta on Friday (12/6).

The offer for relocation was conveyed by Minister Agus Kartasasmita in a virtual meeting with the US-ASEAN Business Council, yesterday. At present, Indonesia has established as many as 114 industrial areas and plans to develop 27 other industrial areas until the end of 2024.

"They prove to be able to be a catalyst for the growth of new industrial sectors in Indonesia, even to the point of providing training, sharing knowledge, and helping develop entrepreneurship in the country," he said.

He is optimistic that the US will become a business and trade partner for Indonesia. During 2013-2017, US investment in Indonesia was estimated to reach US$ 36 billion. (LK/AR)
