Export of processed fresh foods rose by 7.9% YoY

JAKARTA. The export of Indonesian processed food products during the period of January-April 2020 increased by 7.9% amid restrictions on trade activities in various countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ari Satria, Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Trade, admitted that the COVID-19 pandemic did indeed affect trade in almost all countries. "But this does not affect the government's efforts to boost Indonesia's trade performance in the second quarter of 2020," Satria said.

According to the Ministry of Trade's data, the export value of Indonesian processed food products reached US$ 1.32 billion during the period of January-April 2020. While in the same period the previous year, it was only US$ 1.22 billion.

The figure came from processed foods which reached US$ 139.83 million, processed shrimp (US$ 137.15 million), processed fish (US$ 129.16 million), processed crab (US$ 106.1 million), and coffee essences and concentrate (US$ 104, 89 million).

Most of the products were exported to the United States, with a total export value of US$ 293.6 million. Followed by the Philippines (US$ 161.4 million), Malaysia (US$ 101.6 million), Singapore (US$ 74.9 million), and Japan (US$ 71.9 million). (KR/AR)
