Ministry of PUPR to build 38 suspension bridges in 2020

JAKARTA - In the midst of rapid development of massive scale infrastructure such as toll roads and dams, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) also continues to build populist infrastructure, one of which is a suspension bridge.

"The presence of this bridge will facilitate and shorten the travel time of rural communities to schools, markets, workplaces, complete administrative matters to the village or sub-district office and access to hospitality between residents," said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono some time ago.

In 2020, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Highways, allocated a budget of Rp 179.4 billion to build as many as 38 suspension bridges spread across 16 provinces in Indonesia. Of the total 38 suspension bridges, 1 unit has been contracted while 34 other units are still in the auction process.

The construction of a suspension bridge with a length of 42 m - 300 will be built in Aceh Province 3 units, North Sumatra Province 6 units, West Sumatra Province 3 units, Jambi Province 3 units, Babel Islands Province 1 unit, Banten Province 3 units, Central Java Province 2 units, East Java Province 3 units, Central Kalimantan Province 1 unit, South Kalimantan Province 1 unit, North Kalimantan Province 2 units, South Sulawesi Province 3 units, Papua Province 6 units, West Kalimantan Province 2 units, Lampung Province 1 unit, and Southeast Sulawesi Province 1 Unit.
