UNDP and Chinese foundation team up to provide 500,000 medical masks for Indonesia

JAKARTA - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented 500,000 medical masks to the Indonesian government on Friday (19/6). to help the country's handling of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The aid, worth US$183,000, was provided with financial support from Chinese-based Soong Ching Ling Foundation and symbolically presented by UNDP Indonesia Country Director Christophe Bahuet to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Director-General for Multilateral Partnership Febrian A. Ruddyard.

"As we all know, the pandemic has caused a scarcity of medical masks. These masks are part of UNDP's response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia," Mr Bahuet said in an official statement received by IDNFinancials.com.

"These mask will help protect frontline medical personnel in the handling of COVID-19, and they deserve everyone's admiration and thankfulness."

Previously, UNDP had provided the first delivery of ventilators to the Indonesian government in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

As of Sunday (21/6), Indonesia has 45,891 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18,404 recoveries and 2,465 deaths. (MS)
