JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry has opened a new market for metal-producing SMEs in Tegal, Central Java to produce automotive import substitution. The effort is a response to the lower revenue suffered by the Brand Holder Agent's (APM) partner SMEs during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to the ministry's Director-General for Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries Gati Wibawaningsih, the ministry connects SMEs in Tegal's metal production centre to a new market in the automotive industry through its flagship link-and-match programme.
"SMEs in Tegal's metal production centre has secured a purchase order from PT Sinar Agung Selalu Sukses (SASS) to produce import substitution products including 10-tonne, 5-tonne, and 30.32-tonne LT handle sockets," she said in a press release on Friday (26/6).
In addition, SASS has also made an order for rearview mirror handles. SMEs involved in the project are PT Bimuda Karya Teknik, PT Mitra Karya Tegal, and PT Tiga Bersaudara while a number of tier I and tier II metal-producing SMEs in Tegal have suffered a 90% revenue drop after APM suspended operations recently.
