SEATTLE - The Boeing Company has settled over 90% of the wrongful death claims filed after the crash of Lion Air Flight 610 which killed all 189 passengers and crew members in 2018, a court filing on Tuesday (7/7) said.

“We are pleased to have made significant progress in recent months in resolving cases brought by the victims’ families on terms that we believe fairly compensate them,” Boeing spokesman Gordon Johndroe told Reuters.

The company said in a filing in a federal court in Chicago that it has fully or partially settled claims relating to 171 of the 189 people on board Flight 610, including 140 of the 150 claims filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

However, it did not disclose the amount of money paid to the victims’ families or estates.

The aerospace giant is seeking to win US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to fly the Boeing 737 MAX commercially again later this year after more than a year of worldwide grounding of the type following the Lion Air crash and another involving Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 in 2019.
