JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade will try to increase exports of spice products to Egypt and India this year. These two countries are considered very promising because the demand for spices there continues to increase.

In the first four months of this year, Indonesian spice exports to Egypt were recorded at US$ 1.42 million. The most popular commodities are clove, cinnamon, pepper, and ginger. In the same period, exports of spices to India reached US$ 26.2 million.

"Egypt is a promising market for Indonesian spices because the demand for spices, such as nutmeg and cloves, are very high. Indonesia is the number one clove exporter to Egypt," said the Director-General of National Export Development, Kasan, in a press release published on Wednesday (8/7).

To enter those markets, Indonesian exporters need to prepare export documents that are accompanied by certificates of analysis from laboratories, certificates of phytosanitary from the Agricultural Quarantine Agency for plant products, and other additional documents. (LK/AR)
