JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry is determined to accelerate the transformation of the manufacturing sector in the country towards industry 4.0. This strategic step is aimed at increasing the productivity and competitiveness of national industries, as well as implementing priority programs on the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map.

"Industry transformation 4.0 provides benefits for companies, including reducing costs and down-time, increasing the performance of machinery and equipment, increasing the speed of production operations and product quality, and is compatible with health protocols," said the Head of the Ministry of Industry Research and Development (BPPI), Doddy Rahadi during a working visit at PT. Tata Logam Lestari, Cikarang, Thursday (7/16).

Head of BPPI conveyed his visit to PT. Tata Logam Lestari in order to see the readiness of one of the domestic metal industries to transform towards industry 4.0. According to Doddy, although the metal industry has not been included in the five industrial sector 4.0 pioneers in Making Indonesia 4.0, it is a strategic sector because so far it has been able to contribute significantly to the national economy.

In fact, by transforming towards industry 4.0, it is believed that the performance of the metal industry will be more robust and has the opportunity to boost its contribution to the value of national exports. A positive record of exports of the national metal industry products can be seen from the achievements in January-May 2020 which reached USD9.2 billion, up 41 percent compared to the achievement in the same period in 2019 of around USD6.5 billion.
