Indonesia will try to boost F&B exports to Saudi Arabia

17 July 2020 13:57

JAKARTA. The Indonesian government is trying to boost exports of food and beverage (F&B) products to Saudi Arabia, amid a trade balance deficit due to massive oil imports.

Eko Hartono, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Jeddah, said that Saudi Arabia is a potential export market for products from Indonesia. "Business players are expected to actively seek export market opportunities by communicating with representatives of Indonesia," Hartono said through an official statement.

The same thing was said by Kasan, Director General of National Export Development, on the same occasion. He even considered Saudi Arabia as an entry point for exports of Indonesian products in the Middle East region. "Saudi Arabia is a captive market that needs attention," Kasan said.

During the period of January-May 2020, the value of trade between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia dropped by 17.86% to US$ 1.81 billion.(KR/AR)
