Golden Energy Mines responds to Freddy Widjaja's lawsuit

17 July 2020 14:59

JAKARTA. PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS), a member of Sinar Mas Group engaged in mining, responded to the claim of inheritance rights filed by Freddy Widjaja, the heir of the late Eka Tjipta Widjaja.

In his lawsuit, Freddy Widjaja said that the assets of GEMS were part of Eka Tjipta Widjaja's inheritance. However, Sudin SH, Corporate Secretary of GEMS, explained that the lawsuit did not have a strong foundation. Considering Tjipta Widjaja, said Sudin, "does not own shares directly in the company [GEMS]."

Sudin ensured that the lawsuit would not affect business continuity or affect the price of GEMS shares. The reason, said Sudin, was that the company's shares were still suspended by the Indonesia Stock Exchange because it did not meet the free float rules. (KR/AR)
