JAKARTA - One of the dams currently being built by the Ministry of PUPR through the Citanduy River Basin Directorate General of Water Resources is the Leuwikeris Dam, which is located in two districts namely Ciamis and Tasikmalaya. This dam is one of 61 advanced dams that continue to be worked after the 2015-2019 period, whereas 15 have been completed and filled with water.

"The Citanduy River does not have a dam yet. When the dam is complete, the continuity of water supply to the rice fields is maintained. So far, agricultural land often experiences flooding during the rainy season and lack of water in the dry season,” said PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

Leuwikeris Dam will irrigate 11,216 hectares of irrigation networks in North Lakbok and South Lakbok. Other benefits are supplying raw water of 850 m3 / sec, to reduce flooding by 11.7% from 509.7 m3 / sec to 450.02 m3 / sec, and electricity potential of 20 MW.

The physical progress of the Leuwikeris Dam, which began in 2016 and is targeted for completion in 2021, has now reached 59.52%. The construction work contract is divided into four packages with a total value of Rp 2.6 trillion. (LM)
