Kuwil Kawangkoan Dam targeted for completion in August 2021

MINAHASA UTARA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is completing the construction of the Kuwil Kawangkoan Dam in North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province. The construction of this dam is a part of flood control in the city of Manado and its surroundings for flood discharge of 470 cubic meters per second, where floods occurred in 2014.

"The progress of Package 1 has reached 64.5% and Package 2 has reached 83.7% so the total progress has reached 73% and is targeted to be completed in August 2021," PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said when reviewing the construction of the Kuwil Kawangkoan Dam on Tuesday (7/21).

In addition to being used as a raw water supply for the Kuwil Kawangkoa Dam, Manado City, Kalawat District, Bitung City and KEK Bitung as much as 4.5 cubic meters per second, PLTM with a capacity of 2 x 0.70 MW and tourism development.

For information, the Kuwil Kawangkoan Dam has a capacity of 23.37 million cubic meters and a pool area of ​​139 hectares. This dam has been built since 2016 with investment as much as Rp 1.46 trillion, which was carried out by PT. Wijaya Karya - DMT, KSO, PT. Nindya Karya (Persero). (LM)
