Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing to speed up development of 10 prioritised metropolitan areas

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing's Regional Infrastructure Development Agency (BPIW) will speed up the development of 10 prioritised metropolitan areas in Indonesia.

According to BPIW Head Hadi Sucahyono, the agency has been directed by Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono to formulate infrastructure development planning in the 10 areas as part of the country's economic recovery effort amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

"Especially for the Kedungsepur (Kendal Regency, Demak Regency, City of Ungaran/Semarang Regency, City of Semarang, City of Salatiga, City of Purwodadi/Grobogan Regency) Metropolitan Area, which is targeted to have a planning product completed by the next two weeks," Mr Sucahyono said as quoted from Antara, Tuesday (21/7).

The planning of Kedungsepur's development, he added, is expected to run quickly and be followed by the formulation of development planning of the nine other areas.

"I ask that the planning of these 10 metropolitan areas be of great quality. Adequately formulated area planning will serve as a direction to the development of other metropolitan areas," Mr Sucahyono remarked.

The 10 prioritised metropolitan areas are as follows:

  1. Mebidangro (City of Medan, City of Binjai, Deli Serdang Regency, Karo Regency), North Sumatra

  2. Patungraya Agung (City of Palembang, Banyuasin Regency, Ogan Ilir Regency, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency), South Sumatra

  3. Jabodetabekpunjur (Jakarta, Bogor Regency, City of Bogor, City of Depok, Tangerang Regency, City of Tangerang, City of South Tangerang, Bekasi Regency, City of Bekasi, Cianjur Regency), including areas in Banten, Jakarta Special Capital Region, and West Java

  4. Cekungan Bandung (City of Bandung, Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency, City of Cimahi), West Java

  5. Kedungsepur (Kendal Regency, Demak Regency, City of Semarang, City of Ungaran/Semarang Regency, City of Salatiga, City of Purwodadi/Grobogan Regency), Central Java

  6. Gerbangkertosusila (Gresik Regency, City of Surabaya, Sidoarjo Regency, Mojokerto Regency, City of Mojokerto, Lamongan Regency, Bangkalan Regency), East Java

  7. Sarbagita (City of Denpasar, Badung Regency, Gianyar Regency, Tabanan Regency), Bali

  8. Banjar Bakula (City of Banjarmasin, City of Banjarbaru, Banjar Regency, Barito Kuala Regency, Tanah Laut Regency), South Kalimantan

  9. Bimindo (City of Bitung, North Minahasa Regency, City of Manado), North Sulawesi

  10. Mamminasata (City of Makassar, Maros Regency, City of Sungguminasa/Gowa Regency, Takalar Regency), South Sulawesi
