JAKARTA - State-owned shipping company PT Pelni (Persero) plans to provide special logistics transport tariffs for MSMEs during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The tariff adjustment will be negotiated with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.
According to Pelni Head of Secretariat Yahya Kuncoro, the company seeks to help expanding product distribution from the MSME sector. "Pelni is calculating logistics tariff adjsutment for MSME products," he said in a press release on Wednesday (12/8).
Mr Kuncoro added that a deal regarding the matter with the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs will be reached shortly. The government, he added, believes that logistics tariff adjustment using passenger and cargo vessels will help market MSME products more widely.
Currently Pelni operates 26 passenger vessels to all provinces and eight sea toll vessels, which can be used to transport MSME products. (LK/MS)
