JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) arrested three illegal fishing boats and 26 Vietnamese crew members in the North Natuna Sea.
Edhy Prabowo, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, said that the three boats were using a new modus operandi. Generally, the ships caught in the North Natuna Sea, he said, were pair trawlers or trawlers operated by two ships. "This is a fairly complete purse seine fleet, there are light boats, fishing boats, and storage vessels," he said in a press release on Wednesday (12/8).
According to him, the arrest showed that the potential for illegal fishing in the North Natuna Sea was still high. Therefore, his party will increase awareness so that this practice can be stopped. (LK/AR)
