Ministry of Industry accelerates construction of a new sugar factory integrated with sugar cane plantation

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the growth of new sugar factories in order to meet the increasing needs of the domestic market, both for direct consumption and as raw material for the food and beverage industry. Therefore, a strategic policy is needed that can create a conducive investment climate in the country.

"We are focused on spurring the construction of new sugar factories integrated with sugar cane plantations, so that they can operate fully," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita when visiting PT Prima Alam Gemilang (PAG) Bombana Sugar Factory which is located in Watu-watu Village, District. Lantari Jaya, Bombana Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, Wednesday (26/8).

The Minister of Industry explained, in order to achieve this target, it is necessary to have facilities to obtain raw materials in the context of building a new sugar factory and expanding investment. This aims to attract investment interest, lower the large investment costs and help plant operational efficiency.

PAG Bombana Sugar Factory has a milling capacity of up to 12,000 tons of cane per day (TCD), making it the largest sugar factory in Indonesia owned by domestic entrepreneurs. This company is supported by the source of raw material for the plasma nucleus sugarcane area of ​​22,797 hectares. (LM)
