BALIKPAPAN - PT Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan, a subsidiary of state-owned energy firm PT Pertamina (Persero), exported 200,000 barrels or 31,800 kl of 50 ppm sulphur HSD to Malaysia on 5 September 2020.

According to KPB General Manager Eko Sunarno, the export, transported using MT Ridgebury Katherine Z, is worth US$9.5 billion. The product, he added, came from the diesel fraction of Pertamina’s Balikpapan secondary refinery unit in East Kalimantan.

“Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused falling demand for fuel, this is a good milestone for Pertamina, particularly the Balikpapan refinery, as the company remains committed to ensure the supply of energy in response to market demand for HSD products,” Mr Sunarno said in an official statement on the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises’ website, Tuesday (8/9).

Going forward, KPB plans to export 200,000 barrels of HSD every month until December. Currently, only Pertamina’s Balikpapan refinery has a production capacity of 200,000 barrels per month, while its refinery in Dumai, Riau has a capacity of 100,000 barrels per month. (MS)
