JAKARTA. Sumitomo Banking Corporation Group (Sumitomo Group) has given a donation worth Rp1.3 billion to the Indonesian General Practitioners Association (PDUI) to handle COVID-19.

Ryuji Nishisaki, Senior Managing Executive Officer of SMBC Group, said that the assistance was an active effort by SMBC to support the handling of the pandemic in Indonesia. "It is a great honor for us to be able to support various organizations around the world that are working directly to minimize the impact of the pandemic," Nishisaki said in a press release.

SMBC chose to give the donation to PDUI, because this institution has been working with PT Bank BTPN Tbk (BTPN), a subsidiary of the SMBC Group, for a long time.

SMBC Group has also distributed around Rp13.71 billion in donation to UNICEF Indonesia. The donation was used to improve the COVID-19 pandemic response program.

For the record, SMBC Group controls 92.43% of BTPN shares. (KR/AR)
