Governors in eight provinces asked to prepare hotels for COVID-19 quarantine

JAKARTA - Governors in the eight provinces with the highest numbers of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are asked to prepare two-star and three-star hotels as quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms.

This was announced by Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at a COVID-19 coordination meeting held virtually on Thursday (17/9).

“The Minister has asked governors to carry out measures previously implemented by South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah,” said the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister’s spokesperson Jodi Mahardi in an official statement as quoted from Antara, Friday (18/9).

According to National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Head and COVID-19 Task Force Chief Lt. Gen. Doni Monardo, using hotels as quarantine facilities is a feasible solution amid the high occupation rates of hospital ICUs.

“In regards to using hotels, I have been in coordination with local governments. If they lack the necessary budgets, we can help provide the money with recommendations from local public health centres,” Mr Monardo said. (MS)
