JAKARTA - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has asked the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to provide economic and social assistance to farmers in Patimban Port, Subang, West Java.

"I would like to remind [the Ministry] to pay close attention to the social and economic impact on fishermen in Patimban. For example, if affected fisherman need assistance for their vessels, the Ministry needs to provide it," said Mr Widodo at the opening of the Patimban National Strategic Project Limited Meeting broadcast on the Cabinet Secretariat's YouTube channel, Tuesday (22/9).

In the meeting, Mr Widodo urged the acceleration of the development of Patimban Port due to its strategic role in boosting growth and trade in West Java. The port, he said, will complement Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta.

"I have said several times that the development of Patimban Port needs to be accelerated," he said. (LK/MS)
