JAKARTA - The House of Representatives’ Commission XI has approved a budget ceiling of Rp 4.9 trillion for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in the 2021 budget year.

The approved amount is 19.4% higher than the Ministry’s indicative ceiling of Rp 4,111,437,568,000 for the 2021 budget year.

According to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio, the budget reflects the House’s support to the government to revive tourism and creative economy as the sectors struggle with the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Government spending is a key aspect in driving the economy during the pandemic,” Mr Kusubandio said as quoted from Antara, Thursday (24/9).

“The budget is not merely about numbers, but it is about how policy is implemented so that it will impact on the people directly, and as such it will give us a new hope for recovery next year.”

In using its 2021 budget, Mr Kusubandio said, the Ministry will focus on three strategic programmes, namely encouraging the recovery of tourism, developing quality tourism and creative industries, and encouraging digitisation and digital sovereignty. (MS)
