JAKARTA - Former PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA) CEO Ari Askhara has been named as a suspect in the smuggling of luxurious goods that took place in late 2019.

According to the Directorate-General of Customs’ Head of Communications and Publication Haryo Limanseto, the case file is currently being completed.

“After the suspect is formally interrogated, hopefully the case file can soon be completed and later presented to the Attorney General’s Office,” Mr Limanseto told Kumparan.com, Saturday (3/10).

In addition to Mr Askhara, he said, former Garuda Technical and Service Director Iwan Joeniarto has also been named as a suspect.

In November last year, Customs discovered that an Airbus A330-900neo aircraft newly ordered by the state-owned airline illegally carried Harley-Davidson motorcycle spare parts and two Brompton folding bicycles after its arrival from Toulouse, France. Afterwards, Mr Askhara and a number of Garuda directors were sacked from their respective positions by State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir. (MS)
