JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is completing the final stage of the construction of the 1.34 Km Kendari Bay Bridge that connects the Kota Lama Port area with Bungkutoko Island and the Poasia District area in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra).

The Kendari Bay Bridge was built to support the development of the southern part of Kendari City and Bungkutoko Island which will be developed into an industrial area, Kendari New Port, and new residential areas. The new port area is a replacement for the Port area in the Old City.

The completion of the Kendari Bay Bridge will also facilitate the movement of people in the Kota Lama area who had to cross Kendari Bay using a ferry or around the Bay as far as 20 km with a travel time of 30-35 minutes. By crossing the bridge the distance will be closer and the travel time needed is only about 5 minutes.

Currently, the physical progress of the construction of the Kendari Bay Bridge has reached 99% and is targeted for completion by the end of October 2020. (LM)
