INKA to develop electric transportation system in Bali

DENPASAR - PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) or INKA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Perusda Bali, a regionally-owned enterprise owned by the Bali Provincial Government, related to the development of an urban transportation system in Bali.

According to INKA CEO Budi Noviantoro, INKA and Perusda Bali will develop an electricity-based transportation looping system which includes Kuta, Sanur, Ubud, and the Gunaksa Balinese Cultural Centre.

“PT INKA (Persero) and Perusda Bali will develop a battery-powered urban transportation system which includes electric trams and buses,” Mr Noviantoro said in an official statement on the Ministry of State-owned Enterprises’ website, Thursday (23/10).

“Going forward, PT INKA (Persero) and Perusda Bali will establish a joint venture to develop and operate the planned transportation system.”

The project, he said, will be partly financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The signing of the MoU was also attended by IsDB Operation Team Leader for Indonesia Omar Eddie Davis. (MS)
