Jokowi urges use of GSP extension to attract investment

03 November 2020 10:34

JAKARTA - The extension of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) from the US needs to be used to attract investment to Indonesia, said President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

Hal tersebut disampaikan Jokowi dalam Sidang Kabinet Paripurna di Istana Negara setelah pertemuan dengan Menteri Luar Negeri AS Mike Pompeo dalam kunjungannya ke Indonesia, Senin (2/11). This was announced by Jokowi at the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace after a meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during his visit to Indonesia, Monday (2/11).

"This is an opportunity. We expect our exports to rise due to the GSP facility," Mr Widodo said as quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat's website.

"The facility makes the prospect of establishing industries, factories, and companies in Indonesia even more attractive."

In addition, Mr Widodo also said he hopes investment can be boosted in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2020 and Q1 of 2021, after negative growth in Q3 due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). (MS)
