JAKARTA/BOGOTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have agreed to strengthen collaboration in six fields in a Political Consultations Meeting held online on Tuesday (3/11).

The six fields are healthcare; high-level visits; anti-narcotics; agriculture, maritime affairs, and fishery; culture and sport; and creative industry and diplomatic education.

"We have also agreed to increase trade and investment between both countries through various efforts, including a planned preferential trade agreement to increase access to each other's market," said Ngurah Swajaya, Director-General for the Americas and Europe at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an official statement on the ministry's website, Wednesday (4/11).

According to Colombian Deputy Foreign Minister Francisco Javier Echeverri, the Political Consultations Meeting was an important milestone in the 40-year diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Colombia. The meeting was a follow-up to a meeting between Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo on 5 August 2020, in which a visa-free agreement for visitors from both countries was signed.

In 2019, the trade value between Indonesia and Colombia was recorded at US4152 million. Colombia is Indonesia's seventh-largest trade partner in Latin America and the Caribbeans. (MS)
