Demand for Indonesian products grows at Alibaba 11.11 Global Shopping Festival

JAKARTA - Several Indonesian brands served as major contributors at the 11.11 Global Shopping Festival held by Chinese e-commerce platform Alibaba on 11 November 2020.

The five fastest-growing Indonesian brands on the platform at the festival were Ellips, Xiaoniao, Kara, Gemez, and Tays Bakers, followed by a number of major brands including YOU C 1000 and Indomie.

According to Harry Sanusi, President Director of PT Kino Indonesia Tbk (KINO) as the owner of Ellips, the brand’s popularity at the festival reflected results from the company’s effort to expand its international market.

“Despite the many challenges we all face this year, we are satisfied with the growth we experienced at Alibaba's 11.11 Global Shopping Festival this year… From this insight, we are increasingly confident that our innovations have been successfully accepted and have won trust in our hearts consumers, not only in Indonesia but also globally,” Mr Sanusi said in an official statement received by IDNFinancials.com, Monday (23/11).

31,766 cross-border brands participated at Alibaba’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival this year, including 2,600 new international brands. Through the festival, the e-commerce platform posted gross merchandise value (GMV) growth of 26% year on year (yoy) to RMB 498.2 billion (around Rp 107.7 trillion). (MS)
