JAKARTA - The government has budgeted Rp 29.6 trillion for the development of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in 2021.

The Ministry of Finance’s data shows that the sector grew above 10% in the second and third quarters of 2020 due to increasing digital economic activities during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“In terms of demand and market, Indonesia’s digital economy has great potential, but its competitiveness still needs to be improved in terms of three aspects, namely knowledge, technology, and future readiness,” said Special Staffer to the Finance Minister for Fiscal Policy and Macroeconomics Masyita Crystallin in an official statement on the Ministry of Finance’s website, Monday (23/11).

According to Ms Crystallin, inclusivity in the use of ICT will continue to improve in line with the growth of consumer demand for technology and artificial intelligence-based services.

This, she added, will accelerate digitalisation and improve productivity which eventually will drive economic growth. (MS)
