Ministry of Industry boosts investment in agro-industrial sector

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage increased investment in the agro-industrial sector in order to strengthen domestic structures so that they can be more competitive. Therefore, a strategic policy is needed to accelerate the realization of investment in the country.

"We recorded more than Rp32.5 trillion of new investment that will enter the agro sector with a total of around 26 projects," said Director General of Agro Industry of the Ministry of Industry, Abdul Rochim in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/1).

The Director General of Agro Industry said that his party divided the three agro-industry sectors which were being accelerated to continue to grow and increase their production capacity. First, the food, seafood and fishery industries which will include commodities such as sugar, flour, feed, maize milling, and biscuits.

Director of the Food, Seafood and Fisheries Industry of the Ministry of Industry, Supriadi, said that investment in the food and beverage industry (mamin) has reached Rp 40.5 trillion. This figure represents 20 percent of the total investment into the processing industry, which is valued at Rp 201.8 trillion during January-September 2020.

Supriadi said that one of the focuses of developing the food and beverage industry in 2021 is maintaining the availability of raw materials. "The availability of raw materials in the food and beverage industry is very important in terms of quantity, quality, and production continuity," said Supriadi. (LM)
