02 December 2020 10:41

JAKARTA - The manufacturing industry in Indonesia continues to show a positive stretch towards the end of 2020. This can be seen from the results of the Indonesian Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in November which reached 50.6, up nearly three points compared to the achievement in October at 47.8.

Based on the survey results released by the IHS Markit, the PMI is above 50, indicating that the manufacturing sector is in an expansionary stage. The surge in Indonesia's manufacturing PMI in the 11th month was driven by increased production as orders increased significantly over the past three months.

"This is good news from the industrial sector, the increase in PMI is an indication that the economy, especially the industrial sector, is starting to expand towards the end of the year with an index above 50," said Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/1).

The Ministry of Industry appreciated the domestic manufacturing sector for showing resilience and being able to take advantage of rebound opportunities with government support. Sigit said that the Ministry of Industry will continue to encourage the implementation of strategic policies to support the recovery of the national industry, while at the same time realizing an advanced and competitive industrial sector. One of them is the 35% import substitution program in 2022. (LM)
