JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry will increasingly aggressively push for the acceleration of the implementation of the use of local materials as industrial raw materials, which is in line with the national movement of Proud to be Made in Indonesia and the 35% import substitution target in 2022. To achieve this target, one of the efforts being encouraged is to advance the natural fiber industry.

The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, always emphasizes industry players in Indonesia to continue to increase the use of local raw materials in their production processes. "Optimizing the potential of local natural fiber-based industrial resources is believed to be able to support sustainable and quality industrial activities in the country," he said in Jakarta, Sunday (13/12).

The Head of BBKB of the Ministry of Industry, Titik Purwati Widowati, said that natural fibers have great potential to be used as raw material for high-quality crafts and can be developed continuously. “Natural fibers have advantages over synthetic fibers because they are recyclable and renewable. So that the opportunities for developing natural fiber in the future are quite promising,” explained Titik.

The Head of BPPI of the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi also stated that the abundant potential of natural fiber in Indonesia should be a separate motivation for stakeholders, including research and development institutions (R & D) to produce new materials through diversification of industrial products from natural fibers.
