The largest floating solar power plant in Southeast Asia was officially built

JAKARTA - The cooperation project between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in constructing a Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) facility has officially started in Cirata, Purwakarta.

This clean energy project was initiated by PT PJB Investasi (PJBI) and Mubadala Investment Company, a UAE government-owned investment company. The project, which will cost an investment of US$ 129 million, is expected to be able to produce 250 GWh of electricity/year.

Dadan Kusdiana, Director General of New and Renewable Energy at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), said that he was optimistic for the project could improve national electrification ratio and reduce emissions. "Indonesia has committed to Paris Agreement at COP-21, with a GHG reduction target of 29%," said Kusdiana.

Meanwhile, Agung Pribadi, the Head of Communications Bureau at Ministry of ESDM, claimed this was the first floating PLTS project in Indonesia and the largest in Southeast Asia. (KR/VA)
