OJK launches securities crowdfunding as financing alternative

04 January 2021 10:10

JAKARTA. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has launched securities crowdfunding as a quick, easy, and affordable financing alternative for youth and non-bankable MSMEs.

"On this special day we are launching securities crowdfunding," said OJK Chief Commissioner Wimboh Santoso at a ceremony to open the Indonesia Stock Exchange's (IDX) first trading session of 2021, Monday (4/1).

Through collaboration with the government, Mr Santoso said, the programme will provide financing for MSMEs with great potential.

He added that currently government electronic procurement involving MSMEs is worth Rp 74 trillion in partnership with 160,000 MSMEs. "This provides great potential for fundraising in the capital market," he said.

Through securities crowdfunding, a business or individual can seek financing from one or more investors in the capital market. The funds raised can also be hedged for a period of time. The scheme is aimed at middle class businesses and startups that have difficulties entering the capital market due to their status not meeting the existing criteria. (AM/MS)
