Industry Minister optimistic that competitiveness of Indonesian automotive industry will remain high

JAKARTA - The motorized vehicle industry is one that is encouraged to develop in the country. This is because the industry shows significant growth which also supports the national economy. This contribution can be seen from the export performance of automotive products, which still shows significant achievements, despite the pandemic conditions.

Responding to developments in the implementation of safeguards from the Republic of the Philippines for passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that these developments proved the high competitiveness of the Indonesian automotive industry. "The implementation of these safeguards shows that the Indonesian automotive industry is above the Philippines," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (12/1).

Furthermore, the Minister of Industry said that the development of Indonesia's automotive sector is showing an encouraging trend. "In my record, at least there will be an investment of more than Rp 30 trillion in Indonesia for the automotive sector," said the Minister of Industry.

From January to November 2020, Indonesia shipped 206,685 Completely Build Up (CBU) vehicles, 46,446 Completely Knock Down (CKD) units, and 53.6 million vehicle components. (LM)
