Ministry of Transportation permits aircrafts to fly in full capacity during PPKM

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation allowed aircrafts to operate in full capacity starting from January 9, 2021 to January 25, 2021, in contrast to the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) happening in Java and Bali.

The policy was announced through a Circular No. 3 Year 2021 of the Ministry of Transportation concerning Guidelines for Implementing Domestic Travel with Air Transportation during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Point 5 of the circular explained that prior 70% occupancy restrictions were lifted during the enforcement of the circular.

Novie Riyanto, Director General of Air Transport of Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, who signed the circular, stated that rules regarding negative PCR and swab antigen tests are still valid, except for pioneer air freight flights and flights in 3T areas (lit. frontier, remote, and underdeveloped) as well as children passengers under 12 years of age. Aircraft carriers are expected to vacate three seat rows for quarantine in cases of passengers with Covid-19 symptomps. Regular health protocols still apply.

On January 9, 2021, Indonesia noted 10046 new Covid-19 cases out of 57666 tests, a 17.42% positive rate, a figure that was much higher compared to three months ago on October 9, 2020, 4094 new cases out of 44700 tests, a 9.16% positive rate. Today (15/1), there was 12818 new cases out of 72957 tests, a 17.57% positive rate. (AC)
