JAKARTA - The Indonesian government through Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources announced its commitment to build a solar panel park in Eastern Indonesia.

Dadan Kusdiana, Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, said that the solar panel park would also be a center for Solar Power Plants (PLTS). "Like in Abu Dhabi, Portugal and Saudi Arabia," he said in a press conference.

Kusdiana added that the plan was one of the Indonesian government's efforts to develop PLTS massively. So far, Indonesian government has targeted the total capacity of PLTS in 2035 to reach 17,687 Mega Watts.

To support this long-term target, said Kusdiana,  Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had also tried to make PLTS investment to be more at an economical price. Therefore, various projects in environmentally friendly energy sector, especially PLTS, can compete with power plants made from fossil energy such as Steam Power Plants. (KR/VA)
