JAKARTA. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif said that oil reserves in Indonesia will last another 9.5 years and natural gas for 19.9 years.

This was conveyed by Tasrif in the agenda of the Joint Working Meeting of the Commission VII DPR RI in Jakarta. "This assumes there are no new discoveries and the current production level is 700 thousand barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 6 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day (bscfd)," said Tasrif.

Tasrif added that Indonesia's oil reserves are currently at 4.17 billion barrels and proven reserves are 2.44 billion barrels. Meanwhile, unproven reserve data, up to 2020, was recorded at 2.44 billion barrels. Meanwhile, natural gas reserves are currently recorded at 62.4 trillion cubic feet, with total proven reserves of 43.6 trillion cubic feet.

Currently, the Indonesian government is trying to maintain the life of oil and gas reserves by increasing exploration activities. In 2020, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources conducted a 2-dimensional seismic survey in an area of 28,349.83 kilometers, as well as a 3-dimensional seismic survey of 1,250.97 kilometers.
