JAKARTA - PT Perta Daya Gas (PDG), a joint venture between PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) and PT Indonesia Power (IP), had completed the construction of a 3.7 kilometer (Km) gas pipeline in Sorong, Papua. Pertagas and IP are subsidiaries of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGAS) and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero).

Arief Wardono, President Director of PDG, said that the pipeline infrastructure was completed in six weeks after soft launching on December 24, 2020. "The built gas pipe is part of the gasification project for Sorong Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG), with a capacity of 50 Megawatts (MW). ),” he said in a press release quoted on Friday (22/1).

After completing the gas pipeline, Wardono explained, a commissioning of gas flow was carried out from Malamoi Olom Wobok's Matering & Regulating Station (MRS) to Sorong’s Special Economic Zone (KEK) to Sorong PLTMG in West Papua. After that, there will be a gradual shift in the use of fuel oil to natural gas in Sorong PLTMG Unit 1 to Unit 5 generator.

The construction of the gas pipeline was an assignment from PGAS with the legal protection of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No.13/2020. "The gas supply for Sorong PLTMG is expected to support government programs to provide electricity in West Papua," said Wardono. (LK/VA)
