JAKARTA - In the last two months, the Investment Alert Task Force (SWI) found 133 illegal peer to peer (P2P) lending financial technology platforms and 14 business activities in the field of financial investment without permission. This was conveyed by Tongam Lumban Tobing, Chairman of the Investment Alert Task Force in a press release quoted on Friday (29/1).

He said that the public needs to continue to get information about the existence of this illegal institution so that people can avoid losses in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Before taking advantage of P2P lending and investing, people must understand about licensing and the benefits it offers," he said.

According to him, every P2P lending must obtain permission from related parties, for example, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the benefits offered do not exceed reasonable limits. The Investment Alert Task Force, he said, consists of 13 ministries and government agencies, including Bank Indonesia, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Communication and Information, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Religion, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education.

"The 14 illegal investment companies, among others, are two commodity futures companies, three cryptocurrency companies, three cooperatives, two direct selling companies, and four companies engaged in other fields," said Tobing. (LK/LM)
