JAKARTA - Indonesian Ministry of Health estimated Covid-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca, a British pharmaceutical company, would arrive in the first quarter of 2021.

This was conveyed by Nadia Tarmidzi, the Indonesian government spokesperson of Covid-19 vaccination program. "This is the success of our diplomacy, through Covax we get access to free vaccines and soon it will certainly complete the types of vaccines to be currently available," she said through a press release.

For information, Covax is a multilateral cooperation mechanism, carried out by World Health Organization (WHO) with Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI). One of the goals of this cooperation scheme is to get Covid-19 vaccine equal access for poor and developing countries throughout the world.

In the early stage, Indonesia is rationed with 13.7 to 23.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, and the deliveries will be made over 2 quarters. In the first quarter, Indonesia will receive about 25% of the total vaccine allocation, then the rest will be sent in the second quarter.

Overall, Indonesia commits to obtain 633 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine from various sources, including Sinovac, Novavax, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca. (KR/VA)
