Indonesia and Hungary discuss potential cooperation in the future

JAKARTA - Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó met with the Minister of National Development Planning / Head of Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa at the Bappenas Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (16/2). The bilateral meeting discussed the progress of Indonesia-Hungary cooperation and the potential for the cooperation sector in the future.

Since 2016, Hungary has invested in Indonesia and by 2020, Hungarian investment reached USD 1.5 billion with the majority of investment in trade, hotels and restaurants in the Bali and Nusa Tenggara regions.

“Hungary and Indonesia have committed to a number of collaborations focused on technology and infrastructure. There are many potential for cooperation from trade and investment. Especially with the plan to form an Indonesia-Hungary Investment Fund to support infrastructure development, ” explained Minister Suharso.

Hungary has expressed interest in funding the program called "Improving the National Climate and Air Quality Services (BMKG) and the Indonesian Attorney General's Integrated Intelligence System, and hospital projects under the Ministry of Defense" listed in the List of Medium-Term Foreign Loan Plans (DRPLN-JM) / Blue Book 2020-2024. The Hungarian government offers financing facilities under a soft loan scheme provided by the Hungarian Exim Bank and credit insurance for Hungarian exporters financed by the Hungarian Commercial Bank, in addition to the agreed G to G soft loans.

For information, in 2016, Indonesia received a loan of USD 36.4 million from Hungary which was allocated to finance the Capital District Water Supply Program and Small Water Treatment Plant for Water Scarcity Areas which ended in August 2020. (LM)
