JAKARTA - Indonesia and Japan continue to strive to enhance comprehensive economic cooperation, especially in the industrial sector. The synergy between the two countries is expected to have a positive impact in encouraging business enthusiasm in the midst of the current Covid-19 pandemic.

"Japan is one of the strategic partner countries for Indonesia. Bilateral trade relations between Indonesia and Japan for the non-oil and gas sector in the 2014-2019 period tend to increase with a growth of 5.06 percent," said Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita in Jakarta, Sunday (28/2).

Some time ago, Minister of Industry Agus held a meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Kanasugi Kenji. "We encourage Japanese industry players to actively invest in Indonesia. Moreover, the Indonesian government is determined to create a conducive business climate by providing easy permits and various attractive incentives," he said.

In 2019, the value of Japanese investment in Indonesia was USD 4.31 billion. Meanwhile, in the January-November 2020 period it reached USD 2.58 billion. One of the well-known companies from Japan, the Toyota Group expressed interest in investing in Indonesia amounting to USD2 billion and is committed to supporting the Indonesian Government's efforts to reduce carbon emissions by producing hybrid and electric cars.
