JAKARTA. PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) has made an investment worth USD 40 million, equivalent to IDR 581 billion, in two local start-ups, Sayurbox and Halodoc, in Q1 2021.

According to Djony Bunarto Tjondro, the President Director of ASII, the investment made by the Astra group in Sayurbox in March 2021 was equal to USD 5 million, or IDR 73 billion. Meanwhile, the investment in Halodoc in April 2021 reached USD 35 million, or IDR 508 billion.

“The group becomes the main investor during the recent funding rounds of these two Indonesian start-ups,” Tjondro wrote to idnfinancials.com.

Sayurbox is an e-commerce start-up focusing on distributing vegetables and fruits directly from the farmers. It has started its operation in 2016. Meanwhile, Halodoc is a medical consultation platform, which has gone online since 2016.

As mentioned by idnfinancials.com, ASII recorded a 22% decline in its net profit of Q1 2021 to IDR 3.73 trillion. Tjondro saw this deterioration as a result of how the company’s performance “was still uncertain due to the ongoing pandemic.” (KR/ZH)
