DUMAI - Pelindo 1 Dumai Branch continues to carry out business initiatives to boost its performance by re-exporting containers. Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and its derivatives were exported to Port Klang, Malaysia, as many as 19 boxes of 20 feet ISO tanks through the Port of Dumai on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.

"Exporting CPO and its derivatives through ISO tank containers at dock C at Dumai Port is a container export service that is carried out continuously. Previously, the first container export activity was carried out in March," said General Manager of Pelindo 1 Dumai Branch, Jonedi Ramli.

Jonedi Ramli explained that in the last initial export activity, CPO shipments used a flexibag container, which is a flexible packaging system used to transport liquid materials in containers. However, for this second export activity using ISO tanks.

In this ISO tank export activity, Pelindo 1 Dumai collaborates with PT Ben Line as the representative of the ISO tank owner, Den Hartogh Asia Pacific. Meanwhile, for the barge used as a means of transportation, Pelindo 1 Dumai is supported by PT Segara Mitra Abadi as an agent of MIT Cargo (Pvt) Ltd. This CPO commodity and its derivatives are exported to Port Klang, Malaysia which will then be forwarded to the port of destination in East Asia.

Before this shipping route existed, business actors had to send their goods by land which were then sent through other ports. Delivering goods to Port Klang if using another port will take three days to travel, but via Dumai Port it is estimated that it will take around 22 hours.

During the first quarter of 2021, Pelindo 1 Dumai's throughput increased as indicated by serving ship visits with a total volume of 9,955 GT (Gross Tonnage), an increase of 1.33% compared to the first quarter of 2020 which was 9,824 GT. (LM)
