JAKARTA. The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, appointed Abdi Negara Nurdin as the new commissary of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (TLM) during the General Shareholders Meeting last weekend.
Nurdin is nationally known as a musician, joining the band Slank under the name of Abdee Negara. On the other side, he is also infamous for being President Joko Widodo’s supporter during Jokowi’s candidacy as the 7th Indonesian President in 2014.
This decision gained criticism from many political experts. Some of the highlighted issues involved Nurdin’s professional background. He has more extensive experience in the music scene instead of corporate business.
However, Ahmad Reza, the Senior VP of Corporate Communication and Investor Relations of Telkom, claimed that assigning Nurdin to the commissary position aligned with the company’s needs. “The anointed commissaries have the capacity and classification needed in the company’s business development,” Reza explained.
Meanwhile, Ririek Adriansyah, the President Director of Telkom Indonesia, announced that the company would arrange several initiatives to support the digital ecosystem. “Telkom is committed to driving digitalisation in Indonesia forward and improving Indonesia further through digital optimalisation, Adriansyah continued.
