Astra International car sales stabilise within the last three months

16 June 2021 16:10

JAKARTA. PT Astra International Tbk (ASII) notices that the car sales throughout March-May 2021 have gone back to normal to the number before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia last year.

In March 2021, car sales reached 45,521 units. Then, in April and May, the numbers reached 41,676 and 28,376 units. As a comparison, ASII’s car sales in March and April 2020 only reach 3,804 and 1,102 units.

Boy Kelana Soebroto, the Head of Corporate Communication of ASII, claims that this upturn within car sales throughout March-May 2021 is due to several positive events. They include the national vaccination programme, the improved consumer confidence index, and the tax relaxation for luxury goods (PPnBM).

“We hope that this level would remain in that position by the end of this year following the national COVID-19 vaccination programme, the strengthening consumer confidence index, and the plan of a 100% extension for luxury tax relaxation from March to August 2021,” Soebroto confirms in the official statement.

As of May 2021, ASII controls 52% of the car sales market in Indonesia. Meanwhile, ASII also has a 75% grip within the Low-Cost Green Car (LCGC) market. (KR/ZH)
